The Firefighter's Promise by Kate James

An accidental love . . .

When Jacqueline (Jax) Warren is in a serious motorcycle accident, firefighter Ryan Hudson is the first to arrive at the scene. Ryan takes a special interest in Jax particularly when he discovers that her stepmother—Jax’s only known contact—shows little interest in her wellbeing. But Jax learned early in life that she can’t rely on other people and it’s her six-year-old half-brother, Kyle, who’s the only person she cares about.

In the face of Ryan’s persistence and devotion, Jax begins to open up to him. Convincing her to spend Thanksgiving with him and his family—to prove to her that not all families are like the one she’d known—he presents her with a gift she never imagined, and she finally lets him into her life . . . and into her heart.

Guest Post from Kate James

I’ve loved reading as far back as I can remember. While I was in university, I decided I wanted to write. I started a couple of manuscripts, but I didn’t complete either one. It was many years later that I finally decided that I wanted to try again. I completed my first manuscript in six months while working full time, writing very early in the mornings and late at nights. It took me another six months to find a publisher. I entered into a contract with a small Canadian publisher. My debut, Silver Linings, did well and received first-place honors in both readers’ choice contest that I entered it in. As much as I enjoyed working with the publisher and I learned a lot, I decided to try to find a larger publisher for my subsequent books.

I was fortunate to meet Paula Eykelhof, Executive Editor, Single Titles, for Harlequin Enterprises, at a writers’ meeting. She gave me the opportunity to pitch to her. Some months later, she asked if I would be interested in writing for Heartwarming. She sent me several Heartwarming books, including Annie’s Neighborhood, by Roz Denny Fox, an author who I like and respect a great deal. My first contract was for two books: the award-winning A Child’s Christmas, and my May, 2015 release, The Truth About Hope. My most recent release is When the Right One Comes Along, the first book in my K-9 trilogy. The second and third books, When Love Matters Most and When the Sky’s the Limit, will be released in January and June 2016, respectively.

The Heartwarming series is for readers who enjoy well-written, deeply-nuanced stories that are clean and wholesome. I am pleased to have been invited to participate in this special Thanksgiving promotion. It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to give back to our loyal readers and to introduce new readers to our stories. We hope you enjoy these thirteen short stories. Also, look for Heartwarming books in your local Walmart store starting January, 2016.

Kate spent much of her childhood abroad before attending university in Canada. She built a successful business career, but her passion has always been literature. As a result Kate turned her energy to her love of the written word. Kate's goal is to entertain her readers with engaging stories featuring strong, likable characters. Kate has been honored with numerous awards for her writing. She and her husband, Ken, enjoy traveling and the outdoors with their beloved Labrador Retrievers.
